Not enough resource to give to all should mean no resources distributed

When there are not enough resources in the bank to distribute to ALL parties, the game should not distributed.

Example: Red has 2 cities on a (6) wood. Blue has a city on the (6) wood. There is 5 wood left when a 6 is rolled. Red would receive 4 wood and blue would receive 2. 4+2 = 6 required > 5 in the bank. No one would receive resources.

This should not apply to individual overages where only one person would receive the resources. In this case, all remaining resources would go to that person.

Example: Red has 3 cities on a (6) wood. There is 5 wood remaining. Red would receive 5 wood since he is the only recipient.

If we aren't going to follow the FAQ, then either distributing the resources to the lowest score player first or round robining them out would be more fair. Having someone with cities monopolizing a scarce resource is already painful enough.

A number rolls, the other players (who also have higher scores) have cities on a resource and get handfuls of that resources (ore in this case) and the bank runs out and I get nothing. Multiple rolls in a row. WTF.

Either hand out nothing, or round robin out the remaining resources, preferably allocating first to the lowest ranked player.

I think that this is fair to not give resources if some one player is going to be shorted, but I think it should be checked to see if the cards can be evenly proportioned at a lesser number. Example: one player has 2 cities and another has one city. Instead of 0 cards being distributed when there are only 5 of that resource the player with two cities would get 2 resources and the player with one city would get one resource, leaving 2 resources in the bank.

It could be another option to set-up the game by just selecting unlimited resources cards. This could be extended to allow for unlimited road, city, and village resources as well. Then competitive high point games would not end in stalemates, and games that can not be finished. It is an electronic game, nothing is impossible. I have combined multiple board game sets to add these features to games I have played with friends, and it worked out well. It would be nice to have the options.

In official national qualifier tournaments, this is the case. If one person is shorted, then everyone will not get the resource. We just want the game to be consistent with the rules.

Keep in mind National Qualifier tournaments use the official base game rules.

This must be very rare, but it's still a bug. According to the rules of catan, after the dices roll, if there's not enough of a certain resource for everyone to collect, no one should collect the resource.

I remember that some people received a resource but I didn't since there was not enough for all of us. No one should have received then.

For example: I got 2 wheats, but the bank only had 1 left - so it didn't give me anything. I think that's a bug.

Can add a screenshot if needed but I don't think that's necessary here

Note that, if more than one player would receive resources of a certain type but the bank does not have enough of that resource, nobody gets that resource. Was this maybe the case with you? Was there another player at the same wheat field?

If you were the only player who was supposed to get wheat then it is indeed a bug since you should then receive all the remaining resources.

That's how it should work based on the game rules @bjaki, but it's a bug here because it doesn't do that. For example if someone has cities they usually get all the remaining wheat where someone else gets nothing. Terribly unfair.

In tournaments, if the bank ever “owes” a resource that means no one get the resource for that turn. So if there are only 5 ore left in the bank and a 6 is rolled and 8 ore is owed, no one gets ore.

Looks like a lot of people on 6... it seems likely the bank ran out of resources before it got to you and then you weren't allocated any. It's a bug in this game (either nobody should get any, or they should be more fairly distributed)

When the resource is nearly out, and multiple people could get it the official rule is no one gets it. Example: rolling a 9 and only two lumber remain in resource deck and three resources should be awarded to more than one player. The result should be no one gets it.

There's a rule in the original Catan regarding drawing resources.

"If there are not enough of a given resource in the supply to fulfill everyone's production, then no one receive any of that resource during that turn (unless it only affects 1 player)."

I noticed that when there aren't enough resources to go around, this version of the game just gives out resources until the bank hits zero. This leaves some players receiving resources while others do not when they should have.

+1 for what Jeremy says. When playing Catan at home you can adapt the rules to your own liking but for an application it is important to follow all official rules by letter so it is consistent with the rule books you get with your physical copy of the game or and with the FAQ of the Catan game.

Just played a game where there was 4 wheat left in the bank, I was to receive 2 wheat, and other players were to receive in total 4 wheat. This happened 3 TIMES, and every single time I got nothing while everyone else got wheat. There is NO WAY that's fair, please fix this, it should follow faq rules where no one gets the wheat. That is just not fair, I wasn't even winning the game. Made me lose the game b/c I needed that wheat.

I had the same issue today.

Resources were hidden and wood was displaying "?"

I rolled the dice, hit a 5, wood was given to two other players, I did not get any.

Rules state that if there is not enough then no player gets any unless only one player should get the resource, in which case that player would get the remaining resource.

I have suffered this already! I had a city and a town on a 6, another player had a city on the other 6, and another player had a 6 on that same other 6. When the 6 rolled a couple of time the two other players received 2 resources each one and I received ONLY 1!! It happened two or three times! Why I was punished when I had the most amount of towns and cities?

Nevertheless the rule per the game written rules is that no one should get the resource if there are no enough resources to distribute.

I also was one point from victory when !!!!!three!!! times in a row, an eight was roll and everyone else received 2-3 wheat while I received nothing. I thought it was a victory point thing, but later someone took the lead and I STILL received nothing. Just makes the game feel unfair and not worth playing

Twice in a row a 6 rolled and I was not awarded wheat. The game has a lot of wheat, but I can't imagine the cap on # of resources was THAT low.

To add to that, there are 19 cards for each resource, so if you're getting 8 wheat per 6 and it rolls twice in a roll, as long as there were a few wheat already in someone's hand, then the cards DEFINITELY ran out.

Like player said, the game is supposed to not give out any cards that roll to be in line with the official rules.

This is in the rules. Currently it gives resources to some players and not others depending on which tile is first in the order I think.

I was just playing a game and 3 people were on a 9 sheep when a 9 got rolled. The other two got sheep but I got nothing. I've never seen this before so it doesn't seem super common, but I just wanted to flag it. In the top right of the image you can see what was rolled and who got resources. You'll notice that black is on the 9 but didn't get anything.

I think this happens very rare, so it is not so important to implement. I played 20 games in basic set and it happens only once.
