Bot trading bug/request thread
If a player leaves the game for whatever reason and a bot takes over, people can abuse the bot for very favourable trades. This can ruin any kind of balance in the game and be especially daunting to newer players. To counter this I propose to, in the lobby, be able to Allow or Disallow trading with bots in that game.

John MergedThe bot will accept a trade and then remove that acceptance. It's both annoying but also something you can game (ie, if you click fast enough you can get the trade it didn't want to make).
[This only made more annoying by bots recently seem to be refusing trades more for hard to understand reasons, I'll have to check the release notes to see if there is explanation for their weirdness] -

Stroom MergedIf you decline a bot trade offer, it still stays on for 3-5 seconds... Really annoying in a quick settings game.

John MergedI'm not sure if it's intended to give some human like feeling to it's behaviour, but it feels laggy and annoying.

player Merged1st player (Bot) sitting on brick and wool 6s, no other players have brick and it's the start of the game when brick is critical. 6 rolls. 2nd Player trades bot brick for wool, bot gives up the brick to get more wool.
This happened but is also a generalization. No player would give up critical resources at the start of a game, especially not something no one else has to get something useless like wool they already have.
Bots are overly generous when it's a bad move on their part. Ironi -

Connor MergedMe and my friend both disabled trading with the bot, but the trade window still popped up for both of us and we could not decline. It sat there and timed out as if we were ignoring it.

John MergedBots will not infrequently cash in the 2 free resources card, then end their turn. Inevitably this will result in them losing those resources when 7 rolls.
[Equally annoying as the separate bug of the bot playing the monop card and then doing nothing with those resources] -

Sharos MergedThe bot decision making is really poor and games are not fun to play through if someone leaves. The bot trades too freely, so maybe restrict bot from trading until its turn, and only allow trade if the bot can build. Also, make the bot ask for multiple cards before trading to someone without a particular resource.

Jay MergedThis would be a huge benefit. The karma system helped a ton, but this would be amazing. So much abuse with the bots.

Alex Bruski MergedI found this happens when a 1 to 1 game is played with a bot and you disable trading with the bot. It doesn't happen when playing with two bots.

Alex Bruski MergedHow can you enable/disable trading when not offered a trade? Is there another method of setting trade preferences?

Matias MergedJust played a game where the bot traded away 3 resources to get 1 brick. Brick was scarce but it resulted in a road and a settlement for the blue player. https://i.gyazo.com/96076004e08da88d3cc5b6a5246648a2.png

H MergedI agree, some players are taking advantage of the disconnect to trade with the bot and steal resources.

John MergedI have a tonne of wheat, another bot has a tonne of ore, and not matter what I offer it refused to trade. So then I convert the wheat into a brick at 4:1, and suddenly it will trade me. This code if flawed.

heady Mergedif no one responds to Bot's trade offer, the bot will not move forward with its turn and it will time out on the trade. Similar to how the trade says no automatically for you if you do not have the proposed resource, the Bot's trade should also automatically read as no and end the Bot's trade offer.
-

John MergedYou are obviously going to build a settlement where the bot wants to build (either stealing their settlement, breaking their road, or stealing a key port in their territory), so the bot shouldn't just trade you the resources you need to build there (or trade anything at all ... unless this is part of some deep strategic play to secure a city or other resources, which is unlikely)

Anthony MergedBots sometimes offer a trade and accept it from another bot and then the trade disappears before I can even see what it is. The algorithm for trading needs to be changed to give humans an even chance against bots. All things being equal, bots should choose to trade with humans over trading with bots. If the human is ahead of other bots, then I could see the bots trading with each other so as not to give the player in the lead something they want. Otherwise, give the human a chance.
-
20 Apr, '20
PotatoRiot MergedI agree that it needs more time for humans to accept the trade as well but why would you want to to give priority to humans in respect of other bots tho? I'd say better give priority on the weakest player
-
28 Apr, '20
Or MergedEvery time a bot offer a trade - if you offer a trade back, like a different thing instead of what the bot offered - the bot get stuck and doesn't play his turn at all... no matter how much time he have.
-

oliatg MergedWhen players leave, they are replaced with a bot. However, the bots take pretty much any trade, which makes it difficult to maintain a normal game. You could add an option that players are not able to trade with bots to keep the game more fair when some players leave
-

agoston MergedOtherwise you don't even have a chance to participate.
-

AlexInAuburn MergedI agree with your comment about having time to trade with bots or offer counter-offers. I agree with PotatoRiot that bots should use the same criteria that good human players use (don't trade with player in the lead, and choose to trade with person in last place first).
-

Casey MergedWhen I make a counter trade offer to a bot, the bot never accepts and game stalls until the time runs out on the trade.
-
11 May, '20
John MergedEither that or your trading logic is buggy. It goes from one game where the bot will hand you 5 resources for 1, to the next game where you can offer it all the resources in your hand and it refuses to trade but will trade with all the other bots even if they are about to win. I have to assume the bot code is not that good
-
11 May, '20
John MergedI literally just had to give it 8 resources out of my hand just to get 1 card, when it's been freely trading 1:1 with each other for the past 10 rounds. It would ignore the exact trade it turns around and accepts from another bot, and it's not like I'm in contention, competing for a spot, or any other logical explanation why it does or doesn't do what it does.

Chris MergedAdding to the statement "Bots are overly generous when it's a bad move on their part.", I was playing a bot game this evening and had 4 wheat in my hand. Offered to trade one for a wood, found a taker. Offered another for a brick - done. Offered another for sheep - accepted again. Easy settlement...
I was heavy on wheat (6, double 9) and had the wheat port. So nobody IRL would have traded with me :) -

ChrisWonderful idea!

John MergedIt's incredibly frustrating that the bots accept trades and then immediately rescind it just as you click on it. I can't tell what's intentional behaviour or buggy crap.
-
09 Jun, '20
John MergedThe bot really trades weirdly. Today it did a 4:1 trade with the bank to change 4 wheat into 1 wood. Then it traded 1 wood to get 1 wheat. Same turn. [Also amusing it when it does something the same, to get a resource it doesn't have such as wood. But then you can trade the bot on your turn to take that resource in a trade]

Dustyn MergedThis would be really great. I try to make the agreement with other players, but not everyone will communicate.
-
10 Jul, '20
Kareem8939 MergedWhen all players have embargoed the bot, the bot should not be able to propose trades. Currently the bot will propose a trade and wait in this case.
-

Monica MergedRobot logic - should stop trading with the opponent when the opponent's score is at 8 or above
