Open Ended Trades
It would be helpful to have the ability to offer open ended trades such as "Need wheat, but don't mind what I give," so other people can just offer what they want and player can accept the best one.

SarahOr the inverse, such as "Can give two sheep, what will you offer me for it?"

Schaeferi usually just do that in the chat, but i do agree, having the option to physically have an offer pop up, makes it more real. Especially when you don't want to say what cards you have in chat in case someone is baiting you (i.e to figure out your cards to either steal via kinght or monopoly)

Alex MergedYou should be able to start a trade only by showing what you give or what you want and let other people send request. For example if want a brick and i m ok with giving any other resource, now i have to make 4 individual offers. I just want to show what i need and let others to show if and what they are willing to trade.

Severin MergedAgreed, it's an important part of trading IRL. CatanUniverse has that option and it really helps. Hope the wonderful devs of Colonist can pull it out ;)

Chuck KellumThis would make it much more like playing in-person. The current trading mechanism in general is very restrictive in comparison to in-person playing.

Jingle535This has not been commented on for a while and is 'Under consideration' but still think it is well needed, so bump!

KaCoCaThis would be a great change. And to the point about using chat to offer these types of trades, chat is really difficult when playing on mobile (tablet or smartphone).

UngarMy "AutoControl for Colonist.io" extension plugin for Chrome implements a simple form of open-ended trades.

Kaye S.What a great suggestion! This would certainly allow the game to feel closer to in-person gameplay with Catan. I do sometimes miss this kind of trading interactions from in-person game play. While this can be done in chat, it's a struggle to chat on mobile devices and having buttons or built-in options to the UI would be ideal. Additionally, I can see this cutting down on offered trades as the setup for the current trading system can be a bit restrictive.

OXThe best design will be a "wild card", it represent "any number, any type" cards, just like a "Wildcard character". It can combine with other certain cards to make any possibility and fulfill any expression.

FeastThis would be an incredible feature that offers a similar social element to an in-person game, as well as aids in player efficiency regarding turn time usage.

The only challenge will be the responding player [choosing a resource], which could be mitigated with a [decline] and [offer] buttons, allowing the player to decline quickly or select a proposed trade. Functionally, this could operate in similar fashion to playing a [year of plenty] where a pop-up menu presents to propose the desired trade. -

Peter Cullen BurberyI can think of a reason not to implement this. Trading should be more targeted and thoughtful. Let's say you need wheat. What you should do is track who is getting wheat, who got wheat, who is on a fields hex that produces wheat, and when did they last get wheat. Use card tracking skills to figure out who has wheat. The next question to ask is what will my opponents build next? Do they have wood and need brick to build a road? You could trade your brick for their wheat in that case. I think I disagree with this suggestion because it accommodates people being lazy and not tracking the cards. Or maybe they need ore to build a city and they have 3 wheat and you have ore so you give them ore and they get a city and you get their wheat. Also unless you have all resources except wheat--brick, wood, ore, and sheep, if you say I need wheat don't mind what I give that's not entirely truthful if you have only say brick wood and sheep. In that case you should say I have brick, ore and sheep.

Mitchel RoeDisclaimer: I didn’t read all other comments…
I think it would be nice to have a question mark card to indicate how many cards you’re looking for in return. For example, I might say I have two lumber for trade and want two cards in return, but want to hear what others have to offer. If I had the question mark card I could put two of them out on their side to indicate I want two cards in return. -
