I think it would be great if the entire game could be played with just the keyboard.
Start of Game:
Initial placement of settlements would have a settlement icon hover over an available spot and you use the ←/↑/↓/→ KEYS for placement and ENTER to confirm.
During a Turn:
1. Dice roll = Spacebar
2. End turn = ESC
3. Trading
3.1. Offering a Trade:
Two ways of bringing up the trading UI: "T" to bring up the window or directly press hotkeys assigned to each resource (see below).
"1" = Lumber
"2" = Brick
"3" = Wool
"4" = Grain
"5" = Ore

Jacob MergedGreat idea! Keyboard shortcuts would make the experience much more fluid in general!

Podvin#8781Accepted and rejected offers will be shown the same way but beside each player will have a number visible (1-6). Click the number to accept the offer.
Escaping the Trade window and rejecting all accepted offers to return you back to your base menu: "Q"
3.2. Accepting a Trade Offer
The offers can pile up and would be numbered 1-9. Select which one you accept to notify the current player. Press "Q" to reject all offers. -

Podvin#8781The first step would be selecting what the player wants to offer, then press "T" again, then select the resources you want to get. For example, I want to offer 2x lumber and I want 2x grain: I press "1" (trade window goes up with lumber card in it), "1" (add another lumber), "T" (confirm my offer), "4" (now the right-side window for what I want), "4" (for the second grain", "T" (send out offer to players).
4. The following are for left-hand placement and with touch typists in mind (QWERTY layout):
"Q" = Escape any UI windows that have been previously selected. Can also be used for rejecting trade offers.
"T" = Trade window (can be omitted with my suggestion above)
"R" = Road placement. Done via arrow keys + ENTER to confirm. "Q" to escape this selection.
"S" = Settlement placement. Same as road placement.
"C" = City placement. Same as road/settlement placement.

Podvin#8781<CONTINUED>
"D" = Dev card purchase. First press of "D" will bring up an animation of a card rising up from the dev card button that's currently in-game. A pop-up prompt to point this out might be good too. Then, ENTER to confirm purchase.
(For the road, settlement, and city placement only the available spots will be highlighted/visible as it is in the current game.)
Robber placement and player selection = Arrow keys + ENTER for both.
Trade embargo = "E" + Player "#" + ENTER -

playerI definitely would like to see keyboard shortcuts for accepting/declining trades because it's awkward moving the mouse all over the screen as is required. But the UI needs to be updated so it's clear whether you accepted/rejected a trade (it's not that clear right now) and the lag resolved so that mistakes are reduced.

Karel MergedGreat suggestion! This could easily be expanded for other actions as well: build, trade, ... Implementing this would allow for very quick gameplay

UngarI created a hotkey solution that uses the AutoControl Chrome extension. Check it out here: https://gist.github.com/Silvyre/7e73756f108dc987a0d12d609e615371

WheatPlease either this or move the trade dialogue down to the rest of the buttons going back and forth between the top and bottom of the screen to do basic functions in the game seems inefficient.

NickAlso good for our human bodies! I'm on the mouse all day for work, and being able to play Colonist on the keyboard would be a big help. Much easier on the shoulders, wrist, and forearm.

PodvinThis is Podvin again. Not sure what happened to my account but thank you for implementing Space to roll the dice! :D
Just throwing it out there to suggest maybe ESC or X to cancel trade offers? The X seems like good placement near the spacebar and it's easy to remember too.

erhSpacebar to end turn is awesome, it's helped made the game more fluid.
I'd suggest expanding on this such that when there are open trades, the space bar denies them. Then an additional space bar press ends the turn.
The idea is I can just hit space to "continue" through without accepting any trades and then end my turn.
