dwarfs fortress game crashes

The game crashes about a third of the time (after trying it a few dozen times). It seems to crash more often when the board has no desert and often right after someone places the robber for the first time.

It has happened two more times and both were when there was no desert and right as the first robber was placed. I think that is the common link with all the crashes.
