When placing the robber and accidentally selecting a player with 0 resources, don't penalize
One thought, and it may have been mentioned before, but when you place a robber on a position that has multiple players, you shouldn't be penalized with getting 0 resources if you carelessly selected the player with 0 resources because you forgot to check their resource count. If it was a real life game, the player would say "I have no resources" and you would take from a player on the spot you robbed that has resources. If you accidentally select the player with 0 resources, there should be a prompt notifying you they don't have resources, which you then can close and subsequently take from someone who does.

ConnorIm surprised this has gotten upvotes. You are asking to be able to not pay attention and pick the best option automatically. Gotta pay attention dude. Wish i could downvote!

TiffanyI'm surprised people disagree with this suggestion. Getting 0 cards is not in line with Catan Rules. https://www.catanstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Catan-Championship-Kit-Instructions-2020-Tournament-Rules-Web.pdf
How is it played at Catan Tournaments? I assume it happens infrequently as people have to display the # of cards on the table, but if it did, I assume they would let you steal from the other player that was on the space you blocked. -

Alex BruskiI agree with Connor as well, that you need to pay attention. If there was a warning on the screen that gives you a choice of who the resource gets taken from, that would not be a bad thing, but I think it already lists the number of resources they have on that screen, doesn't it?

CaineThe numbers are so small it's easy to overlook. Why not just highlight those who have cards and leave more transparent the ones that don't.

Kevin MergedSo many times i click on someone to rob but they end up having 0 cards. It should automatically ban this option so I dont waste a robbery

Alex Bruski MergedThat is part of playing the game. You need to pay attention to the details. Don't expect the game to play for you!

Jl MergedAfter placing the robber on a square you are asked from whom you want to steal a card.
In this case maybe should be automatically robbed from players having cards so you do not 'rob' 0 cards.
(Great interface anyway :)) -

timiit's not just paying attention sometimes it's time. on very fast games you don't have may seconds to select the spot and select the player to pick from. if you block 3 players and there is 2 seconds on the clock to choose who to steal from you don't have time to scroll up and down the player list to see who has more than 0 cards...

Stroom MergedI think robbing from a player with 0 cards might sometimes be necessary so there should still be that option.
I would suggest that the robbing pop-up window should display how many cards each player has. Looking up from the player data windows is too much work. Should be better UX. -

Rodrigo Martinez-DiazTerrible idea. Prioritize your time and pay attention.

Castor#1325Even better would be if a player with cards was automatically selected when there's only one such player (same as if you place the robber on a spot with only one person).

Dustyn MergedI would want this changed to just some kind of notification showing that one of the possible options has no cards. But, still allowing you to not steal from the other player if you want. Because there may be rare situation where you don't want to steal.

SeverinI agree with Pottsitive on the need to prevent this 0 card robbed situation, which is not natural (would never happen IRL). I feel the community here is focusing on competitive playing (hence, "you should check first") and not on the spirit/essence of the game, where Hans Gruber insists on the interpersonal relations and positive/negative exchanges of cards, including robbing. It's an important part of the game and in my opinion should be fixed. Have a good day!

David MergedWhen a robber is placed on a resource square where 2 or more players have a town/city, and one of the players with a town/city has no resources, the game should provide an alert so the player placing the robber knows that player has no resource cards and that player can steal from a player with a town/city that has resources.

Spanky MergedWhen placing the robber on a hex with more than one player, the option is given to steal from any player on that hex regardless of how many cards they have. I've seen it happen way too many times where someone chooses a color and that person does not have any cards. The game then advances and you are unable to choose a different player. This would never, ever happen in real life. IRL, if the person you choose doesn't have a card then you would just choose another person on that hex. The only exc

Mark MergedCurrently when you try to rob someone with no cards, you lose your chance to steal.
Instead, you should be able to select a different person to steal from. -

Squiggles MergedWhen you place a robber and try to steal from a player who has no cards there could be a warning that you will not be able to steal anything. I have played several games where a player attempted to steal a card from another player and were dismayed when they had no cards to steal and felt they had "wasted" the oppotunity.
I understand they could keep an eye on everyone's card count but this is something that beginners and casual players often miss. -

Mamala MergedCurrently the game is set so that if you don't notice that the player you are choosing to steal from doesn't have any cards you miss out on stealing a card. I believe the digital version of this game should be set up the same as if you are playing in person. If I am playing in person and I go to steal from someone and they don't have a card, then I turn to the other player and I steal their card. No one would say "oh you don't get to steal because you turned to them first and didn't realize they didn't have cards" so that shouldn't be an option in this digital version either. When you block more than one person you should only be able to steal from the player who actually has cards so you are able to steal a card no matter what.
I would also almost say you should be warned if the player you are robbing doesn't have cards if there is only 1 player on the resource, but that's a little different scenario and may require a different/additional suggestion. -
