CPU/GPU usage optimisation
The game is perfect, but while playing on the laptop, the battery discharges quickly and the fan tries to fly away from it.

EliasYes, chrome task manager shows a 40% GPU use in a macbook pro 2017. Seems too much for this kind of game

RLMy MacBook Air overheats with this simple game that should take very little energy

CouchTomatoI have the same problem on my MacBook Air. It turns into a plane engine while playing.

Caine80% GPU usage on Chrome for Windows when the game is my active tab. When I change to a different tab the CPU/GPU activity drops until I bring it back to the forefront. It's really bad at this point. I can't play a video in another window without stutter. This isn't a suggestion at this point, it is a Bug.

Alex BruskiThe animated movement of the cards across the screen seems to be the component that is causing the biggest use of resources. On my machine, it takes longer for the cards to get into my hand, than it takes the turn timer to time out in a fast paced game. It is very confusing for the cards to still be in transit, and to have them already showing a placeholder in your hand. It is very hard to know how many cards you actually have. Can we have a check box for animated card travel on/off?

Demiculus Admin@alex could you check out hexs.io (our testing server) and see if it is faster.
I also did test for the card animation and each frame costs around 0.05ms, and when you consider 60fps that corresponds to 3ms of cpu usage in 1sec. The animations are definitely not the bottleneck. Something else is using that 997ms of cpu then the animation lags. I'm not sure what that something is. I'm still trying to figure it out. -

DAor just make it so cpu doesnt trade at all(for now). cpu trading away games way to consistently. Very irritating.

MuhyngDon't know what you did, but after some weeks I tried one game on a notebook and at the end of the game, battery had only 2% less energy and fan didn't start to run. Well done!

tabz@Muhyng Hmm I don't see the same. My laptop still gets really hot and doesn't gain power when plugged in because of the high power draw

Esqarrouth AdminWe fixed a lot of problems regarding this.
Is anyone still having a problem? If so on which machine, browser, OS?
We now have settings about antialiasing, resolution and power, those could be tweaked to make the game run better. How are those working out?
I'll close this issue if things have improved. -

Andiit still uses a crazy amount of gpu power (100% on UHD Intel 630) on Chromium 80.0.3987.149, my Mac Mini goes supersonic :(

JohnnyOn Macbook Pro, and I pretty much can't play the game on my battery which is only 1 year old - usually last 5+ hours
The animation is slow and I don't know whether this is a combination of slow servers or what but the game is not very playable right now since there's a click delay (because of the processing) of 1 to a few seconds. -

RhabdodonOn a 2019 Macbook Pro. 2.8 GHz processor and 16GB of memory. I use Chrome but going on the website makes my laptop spin like I'm processing a 4K video.

IanMake widescreen an option that you can turn off. That lowers the usage quite a bit.

Niket ChoudharyUsing a chrome book. The chrome book gets overheated.
Make a lighter version as option. -

BallSkinInUrMouthAre you guys using a 2D engine for this game? Usually there is an easy way to turn off retina scaling in the game, which is often a source of poor MacOS web performance.

CatanFoolI am a MacBrook Pro user (both a 2011 and a 2018) and the game does seem to strain/overheat my computer. An option in settings to turn off animations or whatever else might cause this problem might be nice. I am not here for the graphics. Love this site though.

JoeStill an issue for me. Seeing 90% GPU usage when active tab in chrome with animations off, antialiasing set to true, resolution of 1 and low-power mode on.

brownbearYeah I'm macbook air 1.6 GHz on Chrome and it makes my computer sound like a jet taking off. Not sure why such a simple game uses so much GPU

LarissaSame issue here. Tried with Safari, which improves GPU usage it a little bit, but the fan still sounds like a jet. :( This is really annoying.

AB100% CPU usage and huge power drain + fan speed while using colonist. Maxed out 2013 Macbook Pro. Please do some performance analysis. Are you re-instantiating objects every time you use them? Are you re-drawing objects that aren't changing?

ChinnaThis should be updated as soon as possible. This literally made me avoid playing many times. please fix this asap.

ValentinMy laptop (MacBook Pro 13" - late 2013) gets very hot and loud and runs through a lot of battery when playing the game.
CPU load is reasonable, so it must be mainly GPU load that's the issue.
Changing the resolution from 2 to 1 helped make my laptop run pretty silent, but the graphics look very bad with that setting. Turning animations off/on did not have any noticeable effect. -
22 May, '20
ValentinOh, forgot to mention: I'm running the game on Chrome (Version 83.0.4103.61)

Demiculus Admin50% + increase in performance. Will be out on v83. Please check it and let us know in discord.

A BHUGE improvement. My laptop no longer sounds like a jet engine trying to take off. Thank you dev team!
