A player shouldn't be allowed to continue building roads beyond an opponent's settlement
This case occurs when a player X builds 3 consecutive roads and then player Y reaches and adds a settlement after the second road. What happens is that X is left with 1 unattached road after the Y's settlement and 2 before.
However, he can still build another road and hence has now 2 available roads to add an extra settlement which should not be allowed by all means.
This being said, the longest road works fine in this case and X loses 1 of his consecutive roads.

JohnThis certainly should be allowed, it's a tactic when you know your opponent can build a settlement but you cant, and you need to expand, then you keep building road that inevitably gets cut off. Then you can keep building road and then your settlement. This is a legal play in Catan as far as I know.
